Salt in the River
06:00
|

There’s salt in the river
Like poison in the flesh of fruits divine
Salt in the river
And the beasts are blind
I’ve never been to school
But I still understand:
Black gold is the key to the stranglehold
Where every reed is dry
Every village abandoned
The land is drying up
The water’s sinking down
There’s twenty-two dams across the border
In the river towns
There’s salt in the river
Like poison in the flesh of fruits divine
Salt in the river
And the beasts are blind
The crescent moon, fertile with reflected light
Watched the marshes bloom green in the dead of night
But now the waterways, like the lunar rays
All wane and subside, and rains won’t provide
Not quite
Once floods and spring-melt snow
Sustained the seasons’ ebb and flow
Now the salt-thick river
Shocks the grass and buffalo
There’s salt in the river
Like poison in the flesh of fruits divine
There’s salt in the river
And the beasts are blind

I’m a single mom here for just one thing:
To provide for my kids despite violence.
Never thought we’d shed tears that gas bombs bring,
Turning innocent laughter to silence.
We are human like them, but they’re wary:
Though we’re sad, and we’re scared, we don’t seem right.
I cry out my namesake, “Mother Mary!”
Grab my kids, drag them far from this dog fight.
With this gas in the air, we may all die!
I pray God will protect each dear baby.
If the borders close, I’ll pray to heav’n high
Other lands, ‘stead of “No!” whisper, “Maybe.”
Let us in, this lone mother with daughters
To rinse suffering tears in fresh waters.

Dangerous
03:17
|
|||
If it’s safer to speak
In comforting lies
I’d rather be dangerous
If “turn your other cheek”
Means “turn a blind eye”
I’d rather be furious
These are the last days
This is your last wave of crime
I can’t hear what you say
With your foot in your mouth
It’s time to get serious
You can’t hear what I’m saying
If your head is in the ground
Denying the obvious
These are the last days
This is your last wave of crime
The safe ways that you sold to us
Are dead ends and a grand waste of time
We’re dying to be dangerous
I cannot fake joy
In the games that you play
Where black and white turns gray as the dusk
And no teary-eyed hope
For houses on fire
Can put out these flames for us
We’re dying to be dangerous
We’re dying to be dangerous

Honey In My Tea

Honey in my tea
Sweet
Gonna keep me up all night
Honey can't you see
Black tea
It's gotta be hot enough
To stimulate my appetite
Honey in my tea
It's hot
Pour me in some cream
To cool it down
Honey you and me
Are so steeped
It's gonna be a shock
To shiver in the cold
When you're not around
Honey in my
Honey in my

One Little Step
02:59
|
|||
One little step
Put courage to the test
In one giant leap for humankind
Sail the darkest seas
On the starlight breeze
All the hope of history on the line
Out goes the ladder down to climb
Blue marble heaven hangs sublime
Quiet now, the dream ends too soon
Sky gypsy sirens call the tune
And when the Earth bells chime
We’ll dive like birds from heavens high
And sing out songs of peace from the moon
One little step
Let us not forget
A peacefulness beyond the sunlit skies
As one planet’s race
Braved the waves of space
And seas of tranquility arrived
Follow the footsteps there to find
Peace is a trek of heart and mind
One little step
One little step
